Madrid: Bright And Sunny Apartment With A View
Our sixth floor home is located in Madrid's lovely Salamanca neighbourhood.
It has wooden floors, heating, air conditioning and a big terrace with a lemon tree, lavender, and a fantastic view that reaches all the way to the Guadarrama mountains on clear days.
It's ten minutes' walk from the leafy Retiro park, and thirty minutes' stroll from the city's most central plaza, Puerta del Sol.
There are several metro and bus stations just around the corner, and also shops of all kinds.
The apartment itself is located in a quiet side street, and has a friendly portero (doorman) and a lift.
There's a bike rental station right in front of the house.
The apartment can sleep up to four people, with one bedroom with a double bed and two single foldaway beds.
There are two working spaces (not counting the terrace table, which is also great for working or hanging out until late at night), and in the living room there is a big TV and a movie collection for cinephiles.
There are also lots of books, in five languages.
Salamanca is an elegant district in Madrid; busy, but very safe even late at night.
Our neighbourhood still has lots of little shops, and a typical "barrio" atmosphere.
Some of Madrid's best tapas bars, restaurants, churreràas (breakfast pastry bars), horchateràas (Spanish version of a milkshake bar) and an original-language cinema can be found here, which is why we sometimes have to force ourselves to explore other areas.
If you get carried away with all those tapas: The nearby Retiro park is the most picturesque choice in town for walking, jogging - or taking a siesta.
Madrid's world-class museums and art centres, such as the Prado, the Reina Sofia, the Thyssen, the Caixa Forum or the Fundación Mapfre are all just a couple of metro stops away.
The fast train takes you to the nearest beach in Valencia in 1 hour and 40 minutes.
