In this most beautiful part of the Netherlands we have it all: history, nature, forest, wildlife, culture, world class museums, sports, small towns with lots of character, and bigger towns nearby.
We live in the middle of the Netherlands, in the very safe little town of Oosterbeek, on the river Rijn (Rhein) and next to the city of Arnhem.
The central location makes our home an ideal base for exploring the Netherlands, or for making short trips further into Europe.
Holland is a small country, but there are so many varying landscapes and cultures to discover.
Of course you should visit Amsterdam, our capital, beautiful with its canals, a historic and lively place.
And then there is Rotterdam, one of the world's biggest ports.
Utrecht, the Hague, and all the big cities can easily be reached within an hour by car or public transport, as can most of the other tourist high-spots.
Travelling by train is very comfortable, and if you're planning to visit Amsterdam for example the train station is just two minutes' walk from our house.
Germany is twenty minutes away by car, Belgium is about an hour's drive away, and even Paris is only four and a half hours away by train.
There are four airports within an hour's drive, and from them you can fly to different cities in Europe like Rome, Barcelona, Vienna, Prague and Florence for about $35.
Nice towns just five to twenty minutes away are Arnhem, known for its good museums, theatres, cinemas, concerts, festivals and many fine restaurants, and Nijmegen, the oldest medieval city of the Netherlands.
If you would like to start your experience of the Netherlands from a peaceful, cultural and relaxing environment, this is the place to be!
We cannot list all the nearby museums and historic places, but we would like to mention the following:
The internationally renowned De Hoge Veluwe National Park with its famous Krà¶ller-Mà¼ller Museum (van Gogh and modern art) is just ten minutes away by car, or thirty minutes by bike, and it is something very special!
In Oosterbeek there is the impressive Airborne Museum with exhibits relating to the World War II Battle of Arnhem in September 1944, and there is also a war cemetery nearby.
There are also some old castles in the surrounding area, and you find a real medieval castle just five minutes from our house.
In Oosterbeek near the river Rijn (Rhine) you will also find one of the oldest stone churches in Europe.
Burger's Zoo (very special with its bush, desert and ocean areas) and the Openluchtmuseum which shows what Holland looked like four centuries ago, are five minutes away by car.
Het Loo Palace, where the Dutch royal family used to live in former days, and the Apenheul, where apes live in a free environment and you can touch them, are only twenty-five kilometres away.
If you enjoy walking, cycling, shopping, heritage, culture, World War II history or just simply relaxing in an area of outstanding natural beauty, then our home is something for you!
After working for more than twenty-five years, Jan (51) has sold his marketing-advertising business, and Mirjam (54) has left her job as spokesperson and advisor to the Mayor at the local council.
