New Zealand / Wellington
A much-admired character house in a magical, very private and peaceful garden setting.
The refurbished house has two double bedrooms and a study (you are welcome to use my computer and Broadband Internet access), two lovely new bathrooms, a new kitchen and dining area, and a very large lounge with four sofas and full length windows looking out on to hills. I also have a furnished studio outside, which has a double bed. Everything is immaculate, but comfortable and harmonious. I have a very large and gorgeous garden on three levels, and a deck, and the house has excellent indoor-outdoor flow for those lovely summer days and evenings. There is a petanque piste for those partial to this pastime.
The suburb, Ngaio, is a very pleasant area only 10 minutes drive from the central city. The house is also a few minutes walk to a railway station for a short ride into the city, or to the north. There is a supermarket and cafe nearby. I am happy to leave my car for use.
Wellington is New Zealand's capital city - and a very vibrant, cultural centre, with many excellent cafes and some of the best coffee in the world. The film, Lord of the Rings, was created here (Peter Jackson lives in Wellington). The city is located around an attractive harbour, surrounded by an ampitheatre of hills. The topography makes for some interesting cityscapes, and abundant views.
I am a former journalist who is now teaching writing at a university in Wellington. I am open to offers for home exchange for eight or nine weeks from September 2009 to the end of January 2010, in or near London. I am very practical about houses and would know what to do if anything went wrong while I was staying in your home.
I would look after your home as if it were my own.
