United States / New York / Upper Manhattan / Morningside Heights
SORRY, THIS PLACE IS NOT CURRENTLY AVAILABLE.
The apartment is big -- especially by New York City standards -- and beautiful. The ceilings are high (>12 feet), and there is original molding details on the walls. French doors separate the living room from the dining room.
The kitchen is separate and has ample counter space. There are two big bedrooms and a newly renovated bathroom. The apartment is part of Columbia University housing so the doorman and the maintenance staff are all great. There is also a 24 hour market in the building and residents can access the store without leaving the building. There is also wireless internet access in the apartment. There might be a laptop computer available as well.
The neighborhood is morningside heights in the upper west side. The building looks out over Columbia University's Teacher's College, which is quite pretty. Morningside Park is at the end of the block, Riverside Park is 3 blocks away, and Central Park is about 12 blocks away. This is one of the greenest parts of Manhattan.
There are many cute cafes and restaurants all within 2 blocks. There are 4 convenient train lines within a 10 minute walk. There is also the main strip of stores and restaurants on Broadway one block away. St. John's Cathedral, the tallest Gothic Cathedral in the world -- or so I'm told -- is down the Avenue. It's pretty here. Big streets and wide sidewalks make it easy to get around with kids, if that's an issue. Since it's a University neighborhood, it's very safe and relaxed.
We are: An astrophysicist (Professor) and a musician. We have two young kids (A 4 year old boy and a girl who's nearly a year old). I'm American and my husband is English. Our son was born in England while I worked at Oxford. We're just coming back to see family and friends.
We're desperate for a garden and an easy place to spend a few weeks with the kids.
