Our Neighbourhood BeachGolf

Farehill is half of a converted U-shaped steading (barns) with a farm house behind so only 3 dwellings together.
Nearest shops in Banchory 3 miles away. 50 metres to pleasant walks by the river Dee (salmon fishing). There are lovely walks in the woods around Crathes castle 1 mile across the river.

There are a number of good golf courses nearby and in the wider area (just over an hour to St.Andrews).
There are plenty of places to explore up the valley including Balmoral, several castles, picturesque glens, distilleriesm, Highland games (including Braemar) or venture into the Cairngorms and Highlands. It's easy day trips down to Edinburgh or Glasgow (good options for flights as well as from Aberdeen). Alternatively beautiful beaches await you a short distance to the East, and it's only 20 minutes into Aberdeen for great eating or evening entertainment.


About Us

I'm a consultant in the energy industry, and my wife's a teacher. We've got 4 well-behaved children (aged 5-13). We enjoy discovering new places and like to make our guests feel really welcome and at home when they stay. We're non-smokers.

Martin and Ruth were very helpful with information before the exchange and helped us to get free entries for castles plus left loads of tourist info and contacts with a great fisherman who learned us how fish the trout ! There house is very nice and spacious, with 4 bedrooms (and a very good king size bed !) a playroom with real “home cinema” (we really enjoyed this !), one big trampoline in their garden, one babyfoot and a lot of games for children (who were really enthusiastic about the house !). There is a very good comfort, a spacious and pleasant garden, and the home were clean and tidy when we arrived, they cared we had a good stay. There is lot of things to do and discover around their house : Aberdeen (a nice town, about 20 mn by car), lot of castles, the Cairngorms National Park, Highlands Games during the summer, coastal towns, nice walkings in the Highlands... We thoroughly recommend Martin and Ruth’s place, and they were perfect guests at our place leaving it in spotless condition. They'd certainly be welcome again to France . Nous avons beaucoup apprécié cet échange. Martin et Ruth nous ont bien informé, nous avons eu de nombreux contacts par mail, ils nous ont laissé leurs cartes d'entrée gratuites pour les châteaux et un super contact pour pêcher la truite à la mouche, ainsi que plein d'infos. Tout était propre et bien rangé quand nous sommes arrivés, la maison conforme à la description, très belle, spacieuse et confortable, quatre grandes chambres, un très confortable king size bed, plein de jeux pour les enfants dont un énorme trampoline qui a fait leur bonheur, et un vrai "home cinéma" avec grand écran que nous avons énormément apprécié ! La maison est dans un environnement très agréable et il y a plein de visites à faire aux alentours, quantité de châteaux et de jolis villages, les beaux paysages des Highlands, le National Cairngorm Montain proche, des Highlands Games dans les villages alentour pendant l'été... Nous avons bien profité de notre séjour, et Martin et Ruth ont été des hôtes respecteux, qui ont laissé notre maison propre, très bien rangée, avec les placards et le frigo pleins de choses qui n'y étaient même pas avant ! L'échange s'est également bien passé pour leur voiture (la leur était d'ailleurs bien mieux que la nôtre !!!)
