The French house is a beautiful traditional stone built country house with 7 bedrooms, 5.5 bathrooms (4 ensuite). It was originally the principal house for the vineyards in the area.

There is a large sitting room with stone fireplace, gallery room with dining and sitting area, 2 modern kitchens, “ancestral hall” dining room (seats 14) with stone fireplace and vaulted ceiling. All facilities and appliances are modern and there are 4 satellite TV's. There is also a laundry room and 3 car garage. The property is centrally heated. A car is available.


Our Neighbourhood Golf

The house is located in a small hamlet 2 kilometres from the charming market town of Chalais in south Charente. Chalais has a full range of shops and other facilities.

Local attractions are the typical French countryside with rolling hills and wonderful views, lovely villages and the Bordeaux region vineyards such as St Emilion and Pomerol. The large city of Angouleme is 50 km to the north and Bordeaux is 100 km to the southwest.

Chalais has its own train station and the fast speed train from Angouleme to Paris takes only two and a half hours. The Atlantic coast is just over an hour's drive. Nearby airports at Bergerac, Bordeaux and Poitiers provide cheap direct flights to London, Paris and other European cities.


About Us

We are a retired English couple in our sixties. We own two properties; one in Chalais, Charente, France and the other in St Cloud, Central Florida USA. The French house will be available for exchange from October to end March. The US house will be available throughout the year with the exception of January, February, March.
